What is the SJT?

The Situational Judgement Test (SJT) is a test for employment and not a medical school exam. It is part of the selection process for entry to the Foundation and Specialised Foundation Programme (SFP) to test the attributes needed to work as a foundation doctor.

During the SJT, you will be presented with typical scenarios that Foundation Year One (FY1) Doctors encounter, and you will be asked questions about dealing with them. When answering the questions, please consider yourself to be a FY1 Doctor and please answer based on what you should do. We appreciate you may sometimes feel that you would like more information before answering, however, please give your best answer based on the information provided in the question.
There are three response formats within the SJT:
· Part 1: Rating questions. These questions require you to individually rate between 4 and 8 response options per scenario.
· Part 2: Multiple choice questions. These questions require you to select 3 answers from a choice of 8 for each.
· Part 3: Ranking questions. These questions require you to rank 5 options for each.


How to maximise your application score

Each application to FY1 is scored out of 100. 50 points are allocated to the Situation Judgement Test (SJT), and 50 to the Educational Performance Measure (EPM).

To maximise your score, you need to:

1.Do well on the Situational Judgement Test (up to 50 points)
2.Be in the top of your class in medical school (34-43 points)
3.Publish peer-reviewed articles with a PubMed ID (up to 2 points)
4.Complete an additional degree, if feasible (up to 5 points)
