After spending almost 10 minutes of anticipated waiting on Tracks No. 3 and 4, a 6-car 733 series EMU, operating as the Rapid Service "Airport" No. 151 bound for Otaru, arrived at Sapporo Station at 7.09 p.m. on Track No. 4. Once the train doors were opened, I boarded the train via Car No. 4, which was the reserved seating ("u" seat) car, and secured my assigned Seat No. 4A for the short early evening commuter return trip of 27 minutes back to the mid-sized suburban port city of Otaru located on the coast of the Sea of Japan.
As soon as the clock struck exactly 7.12 p.m. sharp, all the train doors were closed, and the Rapid Service "Airport" No. 151 finally pulled out of Sapporo Station for the remainder of its routine early evening commuter rush trip of 1 hour 16 minutes from New Chitose Airport to Otaru via Sapporo. However, due to a delayed train service on the Chitose Line earlier on, the train service would be delayed by approximately four minutes.
