In this video, I will explain the types of salts affected soils and their reclamation process.
There are three types of salts affected soils;
1) Saline soils; These soils contain excess amount of salts, pH is less than 8.5 but EC is higher than 4ds/m.
2) Sodic soils; These soils contain excess amount of sodium carbonated and bicorbonates. These salts are soluble in water. Soil pH of Sodic soils is higher than 8.4, EC of these Sodic soils is higher than 4ds/m. Exchangeable sodium percentage is higher than 15.
3) Saline Sodic soils: These soils are problematic having excess quantity of salts and sodium as well.
By following instructions or recommendation in this video, farmers can get better yield by reclaiming their problematicl land.
1) Deep plough in Saline soils and fill the land with fit canal water. Standing water for more than 15 days will leach down salts and land can be used for crops growing.
2) Gypsum application. In Sodic soil will replace sodium.
3) Organic matter addition in these soil can decrease the harmful effects of salts.
4) Green manuring can give better results. Growing and rotavating of berseem, janter, gawara, etc in soils.
5) Do not leave land fallow.
6) Rice and sugarcane cultivation can reclaim these poor soils.
7) Use of Sulphuric acid in Sodic or saline Sodic soils can give best results.
These are some methods by which farmers can reclaim their soils and can take best crop yield.
