You'll Want to Make One of These Classic Red & White Quilts!

Vintage quilt tops are treasures! Especially red & white ones ❤️ Also....custom quilting them can be HARD!

First the treasure part. Someone, somewhere, put a whole lot of time and care into hand piecing this particular project. It's a classic combo - red & white - always a winner, I think.

The HARD part. Oooof. Hand pieced quilts are very seldom square. Or flat, Or have seams pressed in an organized fashion. All of this creates challenges for custom quilting.

But I'm up for the challenge! In order to showcase a bit of each area for you, I've already loaded, basted, and quilted quite a large portion of this quilt.

This will allow me to roll back and forth and quilt a number of different things, plus talk through some of the choices and techniques. In no particular order:
wavy borders: to re-do or accept as is?
"faux" basting
red thread or cream?
pre-wash or not?
a custom motif in the red stars, and a pretty genius thread path which Mr Producer helped with!
background fill in the cream areas
piano key border quilting, and how that helps camouflage wavy borders
