As there is a two-way communication from the gut to the brain and the brain to the gut, we know that our psychological health is reflected in the health of our gut and vice versa.
If we move away from the idea of seeing the body as all these separate parts that don't affect each other to this interconnected series of systems, it makes a lot more sense as to why chronic and traumatic stress can lead to things like inflammation, gut disorders, and chronic pain. With many of them sharing similar pathways. When we see that the body has these, it helps us treat them better.
Low vagal tone can be seen in things like chronic pain, digestive issues, allergies, headaches, depression, and anxiety. We can really promote the vagus nerve for its anti-inflammatory properties to help restore balance to the gut-brain axis and our overall health.
