Welp: just after I published my mining safety lamp video, I came across another lamp with a lot of fascinating design features not covered in my previous video.
Invented by German mining engineer Carl Wolf in the 1880s, the Wolf Safety Lamp was the first to run on benzene rather than oil. This example, manufactured by the Wold Safety Lamp Company of Lead, England, in the 1910, incorporates a number of other fascinating design features, including a primer tape friction relighter and a Cunyghame-Cadman Device for firedamp detection.
