Gallegher teams with female reporter, Adeline Jones, for an exposé on graft and corruption in city government, after a gas explosion implicates the mayor, who awarded a contract that resulted in faulty pipes. The mayor’s friend whose company installed the pipes is naturally enraged, and he tries to put the paper out of business.
