High-profile Victorian Liberal MPs could be at risk of losing their seats at the November state election as community groups debate running new teal independent candidates.
The movement that helped federal teal independents get into parliament at the election is turning their attention to Victoria’s November state election to unseat MPs such as Victorian Opposition leader Matthew Guy and his deputy, David Southwick.
Labor headquarters has already started sending out campaign material in support of Victoria’s Treasurer Tim Pallas, where in his electorate of Werribee, a safe seat, received a swing at the last election against him.
Internal polling on both state Liberal and Labor suggests they could be in trouble at the next election in some working-class, outer suburban seats as people turn away from the major parties in favour of minor parties.
