In this video, I take a deeper look at Goku and Gohan through a family-systems and psychological lens, exploring how Goku’s upbringing shaped the kind of father he became, how Gohan’s temperament made him vulnerable to pressure and idealization, and why their bond is one of the most misunderstood relationships in Dragon Ball Z.
We’ll examine the moments that defined their dynamic. Goku’s early death in the Saiyan Saga, to the Saiyan training under Piccolo, to the Cell Games where Goku’s over-trust collided with Gohan’s anxiety, and the slow, painful process of Gohan trying to figure out who he is outside of his father’s shadow.
