This video features interviews with the authors of “Resilience, Peacebuilding, and Preventing Violent Extremism: A Complex Systems Perspective on Sustaining Peace.” Professor Cedric de Coning and other contributors explore alternative approaches to preventing violent extremism that go beyond security-driven responses by addressing root causes such as poverty, marginalization, and unaddressed grievances.

Based on case studies from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, the authors highlight how community-based, resilience-focused approaches can strengthen social cohesion and prevent violence more sustainably. They explore practical measures that integrate humanitarian, environmental, gender-sensitive, and psychological frameworks. The book is the culmination of the JICA Ogata Research Institute’s project, “Resilience, Peacebuilding, and Preventing Violent Extremism: A Complex Systems Perspective on Sustaining Peace.”
