Michael C. A. Macdonald, D.Litt, FBA, is a Research Associate of the Khalili Research Centre and Honorary Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford. His research interests include the languages, scripts and inscriptions of ancient Arabia; literacy in the ancient Near East; the prehistory of the Arabic language; the rock-art of Syria, Jordan, and Arabia; and the history of the nomads of the Levant and Arabia from the first millennium BC to the rise of Islam.
Michael is currently the director of projects which record the many thousands of graffiti carved by ancient nomads in the deserts of what is now Saudi Arabia and Jordan. They are then edited and made freely available in the Online Corpus of the Inscriptions of Ancient North Arabia. He is a Trustee of the IASA and a member of the Committee of the Seminar for Arabian Studies.
