“Rebounding Joy”

Inspired by one of the horses on the ranch named Hero I hope that God will speak His never ending love into your heart when you view this piece. You are more than your scars, in Christ you are made new.

Transcript:

In 2023 I went to Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch to find inspiration for a painting. I wanted to help support the amazing work the ranch does in healing humans and horses while connecting them with the love of God.
On the tour to see the horses it began to snow but our gracious guide continued to introduce us to the various horses and share some of their back stories while I took more photos.

At a whistle one particular individual named Hero trotted over exuberantly and as he got closer I realized he was missing an eye. It struck me that despite his scars he was still joyful and I felt that this would be the inspiration for the painting.
Then the painting process began. I enjoyed the way it came together full of movement and texture. In the creation of it I had decided to name it “Abounding Joy”.

Then in the time figuring out how to share this painting, my family and community each experienced losses. I put this on hold but continued to think about it’s meaning.
As time went on I realized the beauty of Hero’s story wasn’t because his joy in the moment but actually because he had healed and become joyful again. It was his rebounding joy that drew me to Hero as it offers a glimpse of the restoration promise that God has given us. For in this world we will have trouble but we can take heart for Jesus has overcome the world.

God wants to tell the world about his redeeming love through the story of Hero’s life and yours.
