"The Yelagiri Zamindar Family used to own the entire town of Yelagiri. In the early 1950s, the Indian government took control of it.
Compared to other hill stations in Tamil Nadu, such as Ooty or Kodaikanal, Yelagiri is less developed. Nonetheless, the district government has recently stepped up efforts to turn Yelagiri Hills into a tourism attraction.
