Secrets — can’t live with ‘em, can’t live without ‘em. When you’re deploying pretty much any application, you know you’re going to be dealing with #secrets and sensitive data embedded in your code and configurations.
With #Kubernetes becoming the default platform for microservices-style deployments with a decentralized structure, different services need to connect to one another to function. This results in secrets being repeated in multiple places. Most of these secrets tend to be in plain text format, giving you no way to encrypt, rotate or control privilege on them.
The default Kubernetes secret object is simply not cut out for this challenge. If we’re looking to fix this problem, we need to up the ante a little: with Azure Key Vault.
#Azure Key Vault is a secrets management solution from…you guessed it, Azure. It’s a powerful tool that lets you restrict access to secrets with RBAC and control privileges with access policies.
