The annual Transhumance of the native Merens horses is the highlight of the pastoral calendar in the Ariège Pyrénées.
In conjunction with local breeders and trekking guides, we enable horse enthusiasts to accompany the herds of Merens on horseback as they make their way back up to the high mountain pastures above the Bethmale valley.
There, a party atmosphere awaits with entertainment provided by the traditional folk singers and dancers, the Bethmalais, and a barbecue of locally raised lamb followed by a dessert of local speciality, apple ‘croustade’.
