1. Making the choice to transition
a. Ensure you are making a logical and not an emotional choice
b. Have a plan to get out, and to stay in
c. Include your important people in the choice
2. Starting the Transition (1 year)
a. Create a LinkedIn
b. Collect your annual evaluations
c. Write a starter resume
d. Research transition programs
e. Attend your transition program early
f. Begin gathering information for the VA
3. Continuing early preparation (6 months)
a. Have your resume looked at by multiple parties
b. Start speaking with placement companies to get comfortable talking about yourself
c. Start conducting practice interviews
d. Start spending more time on LinkedIn
e. Gather information about where/ what companies/ salary range
4. Beginning of real transition (3 months)
a. Start stepping away from work a bit more
b. Start applying to jobs and having interviews
c. Continue LinkedIn and job site engagement and leverage connections
5. Getting closer (2 months)
a. You should be speaking with potential employers at least once a week
i. Are you being too selective?
ii. Are your requirements too high?
b. Continue your LinkedIn presence posting at least once a week to gain connections
i. Leverage contacts
6. Final Stretch (1 month)
a. Your main job is your transition and your new life
b. If a job hasn’t been found you should be trying for interviews once or more a week
i. Potentially reevaluate approach
