In the early 2000s, when official consoles were banned and thus absurdly expensive in China, one small studio decided to take matters into their own hands. The result? A ton of illegally produced NES systems and bootlegs including Thunder Emperor: The Legend of Pikachu. An illegal, unlicensed NES de-make of Pokémon Yellow that somehow survived the grey market and became a cult legend.
