RAMAPO - Four teenagers are facing charges for allegedly throwing eggs inside a Hasidic community in Ramapo.
The teens were arraigned Sunday on charges of second-degree aggravated harassment.
Police say the group of teens, each 18 or 19 years old, drove through the Hasidic village of New Square at around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. They allegedly threw a half-dozen eggs at people and houses, and yelled derogatory names.
About 100 people, including the town's volunteer security team, stepped in to stop the teens. Police say the volunteers surrounded their vehicle and formed a "wall" that prevented them from leaving.
"I give them a lot of credit," Ramapo Police Lt. Robert Lancia said of the town's volunteers. "They didn't do anything to the four occupants. They did what they were supposed to do. After that, they called us, we responded and arrested them.
The charge that the four teens are facing is a misdemeanor. One of the teens has posted bail, while the other three were sent to Rockland County Jail.
