Volvo TGB 1314 offroad at Fursten Forest Offroad Park, Germany

Описание: https://asimplyfab.life - During a fun weekend at Fursten Forest terrain in Germany, we took the fab Volvo TGB 1314 ex-military / converted camper for a test drive. They are not very well spotted in the wild and this is a small look at how well the 6-wheels combined with portal axles work in offroad terrain.

The Volvo TGB 1314 was developed by the Swedish Army to complement the 4x4 versions and in this particular case functioned as an offroad ambulance. In essence, they added an extra (driven) rear axle for extra length in the rear compartment. Allied to the portal axles and lockers there isn't much that can stop it in muddy terrain, and can make most 4x4 enthusiasts feel a little despondent (axle envy).

It is quite a narrow truck - not much wider than a Defender so it is nimble enough on tight forest tracks. The main limiting factor would tend to be the wheezy 6 cylinder petrol with a barely adequate 95 HP (taken from a Volvo road car). Whilst being smooth it just runs out of torque, so the vehicle is heavily dependant on the low range and reduction offered by the portal axles.

So great to see this old Volvo in its natural environment tackling a few of Fursten Forest's hills in the big 'quarry' section.
