India’s economy is growing at 7–8%, while logistics demand is growing at around 10%. As the country builds new highways, railway lines, ports, airports and waterways, India’s transport network needs planning that connects all these modes, not planning them in isolation.
The Union Cabinet has approved the creation of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA), a National Apex Body for integrated transport and logistics planning.
ITLA will bring together roads, railways, ports, aviation, waterways, coastal shipping, urban mobility and logistics under a common planning framework.
ITLA will enable:
Better coordination across different transport modes
Integrated planning of major infrastructure projects
Data-driven planning using systems such as GSTN e-way bill, FASTag, Vahan, GPS and urban traffic data
10, 15 and 20-year transport master plans
Continuous monitoring of projects and their performance
Assessment of the real-world impact of completed projects
Better multimodal connectivity and more efficient movement of people and goods
From better coordination to smarter infrastructure planning, ITLA marks a step towards a more integrated transport ecosystem and a better connected India.
