Breaking the Confidence Code - Unlocking the Pain we Protect
Have you ever walked away from a conversation or an encounter feeling small, worthless, or deeply shaken? We’ve all had moments—from subtle slights to traumatic confrontations—that chip away at our confidence and make us question our value. In this episode, we dive into the surprising reason we hold onto this pain and uncover the first key to breaking the confidence code. We'll explore how our deepest beliefs were formed and how, even when it hurts us, we often "protect" our pain because it's familiar. It's time to stop lugging that weight around and start the journey toward true, unshakable confidence.
📌 CHALLENGE FOR YOU:
Take time this week to journal the following questions:
1. Identify an Encounter: Recall a recent or past encounter that left you feeling hurt, angry, or questioning your worth. It doesn't have to be dramatic. What happened, and what was the primary negative message you told yourself afterward? (e.g., "I'm stupid," "I'm not good enough," "I'm a nuisance.")
2. Trace the Thread: Can you identify a similar feeling from your childhood or teenage years? When was the first time you remember feeling that same sense of being "not good enough" or unworthy?
3. Examine the "Protection": In what ways have you been "protecting" a negative belief about yourself? Do you avoid certain situations? Do you preemptively criticize yourself before others can? How has this "protection" actually held you back?
4. The Desire for Healing: What would it feel like to be free from the weight of that old pain? Describe the person you would be if you truly believed, deep in your soul, that you were worthy, capable, and loved.

On Our Inherent Worth:
Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV): "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Supporting Concept: Your worth is not determined by the opinions or actions of others. It was established by God at your very creation. You are intentionally and wonderfully made.
On Our Identity in Christ:
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV): "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
Supporting Concept: In Christ, you are not defined by your past, your failures, or the words spoken over you. You are a new creation. The old labels of "not enough" have been replaced with "holy," "righteous," and "beloved."
On Guarding Our Hearts and Minds:
Philippians 4:7-8 (NIV): "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus... Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."
Supporting Concept: We break the code by actively replacing the old, painful beliefs with what God says is true. We must guard our minds by focusing on His truth, not our past pain.
On Finding Strength in Weakness:
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV): "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."
Supporting Concept: You don't have to have it all figured out. Your feelings of inadequacy are an opportunity to rely completely on God's strength and grace. His confidence can become your confidence.
