Two Days in the Forest

Time for a (not so) solo overrnighter in the woods!

Trees were both deciduous (ash, chestnut, oak, hazel, birch) or resinous (silver fir)
Day temp: 28°c/80f
Night Temp: 12°c/50f

Hiked a bit in beautiful hill.
There were some tracks, made by logging machines.
After a fair walk, I set up camp next to friends of mine.
They pitched their tarps together to form a massive A-frame shelter, so tall you can stand up inside!
As usual, my own set-up was quite minimalist.

First night, whitetail deers were barking all around, pissed their territory was invaded.
First morning, a pine martin woke me up at 5AM, biting my BBQ grate (impregnated with merguez fat) that I laid againt my tarp.
It then came back a few hours later, wandered about 5 to 8m next to our campfire. We were three guys talking around a campfire, and it still came very close!
For breakfast I baked bread in the bush, cooked on coals !
With merguezs, of course.
Hiked along the nearby river for the day.

At 4:50, on the second morning, a red deer walked right me, not afraid (maybe he didn't notice me, we didn't make eye contact).
Its hooves made the ground shake at each step.
I toasted the bread I baked the night prior, made some ashed eggs, comté cheese, cowboy coffee, and then we got out.

It was a great trip, probably the most wildlife I seen in such a short time in France.
