2025 is set to be the year of the ‘affordable’ electric car with a host of budget models finally hitting the market. Leading the way is the Dacia Spring, which is currently the UK’s cheapest new car. It starts from just under £15k for the rather basic but fully functional entry-level model. Buying a new electric car has NEVER been more affordable.



But while the Spring is a great car and opens up the world of electric to a whole new audience, there are some things to consider. The range is low, it charges very slowly and, well, it’s pretty basic. And if you want niceties like rapid charging and some creature comforts, you’ll need the range-topping £16,995 Extreme version.



So here’s the question. Are you better off spending your cash on a brand new Dacia Spring, or a nearly new used electric car. The Fiat 500e is a firm electrifying.com favourite that now looks pretty good value on the used car market. Thanks to some hefty discounting and a general softening of used car values last year, you can pick up a fully loaded, low mileage 500e for exactly the same price as the Spring. Opt for the Italian cutie and you’ll get a much longer range, faster charging and more kit.
