A devastating fire at La Constellation Bar in the Swiss Alps ski resort of Crans-Montana killed 40 people and injured up to 115 others during New Year's Eve celebrations, 90 minutes into the new year. An Australian is among the injured and receiving consular assistance. Witnesses reported seeing sparklers in champagne bottles igniting flammable material in the roof, though the cause is yet to be confirmed and terrorism has been ruled out.
