Salford gangster Jamie Rothwell faces a lengthy jail sentence after admitting a string of drug and gun offences.

Rothwell, a leading member of the city’s Anti A-Team gang, admitted a string of offences in February. His guilty pleas can now be reported for the first time after reporting restrictions were lifted.

Rothwell is due to learn his fate at a sentencing hearing next month. The 38-year-old appeared at court amid high-levels of security, having been produced from prison to appear at Manchester Crown Court on February 5.

He was taken to court from HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire via a police convoy. Teams of armed officers were present in the court building and officers stood guard outside the courtroom ahead of the hearing.

Rothwell, 38, appeared in the dock flanked by four security guards. Tattooed and wearing a black T-shirt, he acknowledged and waved to members of his family sat in the public gallery. He spoke only to confirm his identity and enter his pleas.

Rothwell pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life; one count of conspiracy to possess ammunition with intent to endanger life; conspiracy to supply a controlled drug of Class A, namely cocaine; two counts of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and a single count of conspiracy to supply a controlled drug of Class B, namely ketamine.
