This is Brice with UT Kilts and in this video I will give you step by step instructions on how to measure for a custom Prince Charlie, Argyll, or modern jacket and vest. Please follow my instructions carefully! You can’t return this item if you mis measure and it does not fit.
Jacket Measurements
1. CHEST: Wrap the tape around you and get the measuring tape up into your arm pits as far as it will go. Make sure this is a loose measurement and make note of the size you get.
2. WAIST: This could be a different spot than where you measured for your kilt. If you measured lower, near your hips, then this will be a different spot to measure and may end up being bigger than your other kilt waist measurement. Remember, this really should be the biggest part of your belly and should almost always be bigger than what your waist at your hips is. Again, we want it nice and loose, nothing real tight.
3. SHOULDER TO SHOULDER: You want to measure, in the back, from the outside of one shoulder to the outside of the other. It should be nice and loose, nothing tight or snug. You will need someone to help you with this measurement as it can’t be done on your own.
4. SLEEVE: Do not take this measurement from a dress shirt. You can, however, take a measurement from an existing suit coat that you currently have. This measurement is taken right at the where the shoulder stops and the arm starts. This is where many shirts (not all) have the shoulder seem sewn. Start at that point and go down to the spot on your wrist where you want the jacket to stop. Each person is different so be sure to mark the exact spot you would like it.
5. TOTAL LENGTH: This measurement will give us the total length of your jacket, not including the collar. For this measurement you will want to measure right at the base of your neck. Don’t go too far up as this does not include the collar. You want to measure from the base of your neck down to the top of your where your kilt would be. BUT WAIT! That is not the final measurement. Typically you want to add about 4 inches to that measurement. So if you measure 20 inches from the base of your neck down to the top of your kilt, you would want a kilt jacket that is 24 inches in total length. You can adjust to something shorter or longer as you feel you need. As always, if you have any questions just let me know!
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video so you get your measurements right. As always, don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
