I thought for sure I somehow lost the hard drive after messing around inside the case. Had the windows 98 Start up floppy disk out and everything. Turns out the ide cable had pulled loose from the motherboard.
Both the CPU fan and the tiny fan on the GPU were very loud and not working as they should. Working with retro hardware like this I want to keep things as cool as possible so I went ahead and added a bunch of Noctua fans to my Windows 98 PC. I may have blown the budget going with all Noctua fans but they are great fans, very reliable and super quiet.
Noctua fans used:
One NF-A4X20 PWM 40X20mm used to replace the GPU fan
Two NF-A6X25 FLX 60X25mm used for the CPU and exhaust
Three NF-R8 redux-1800 80x25mm used for the intake air, two in the front and one on the side by the GPU.
Next I will run some benchmarks to get a baseline before I start doing anything else. Might try to see if I can overclock the CPU to 500 MHz, Also might try to replace the cooler to the GPU.
Повторяем попытку...
