After Philippines, Indonesia Set to Finalise BrahMos Missile Deal With India | Defence News

Описание: Indonesia is moving closer than ever to securing the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system as Jakarta’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin prepares for a crucial three-day visit to India from 26–28 November. The visit comes after months of quiet diplomatic activity and reciprocal military engagements between the two nations. Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently confirmed Indonesia’s interest, signalling that the discussions have reached a decisive stage.

For Indonesia, the BrahMos system offers a powerful coastal defence capability, especially given its proximity to the strategically vital Malacca Strait. With maritime threats rising, the ASEAN nation is seeking credible deterrence and greater diversification of defence partners beyond the United States, Russia and China. India’s rapidly expanding defence ecosystem, strengthened by new BrahMos production lines in Lucknow, has made the missile more cost-effective and export-ready.

If the deal is finalised, valued between $600 million and $800 million, Indonesia would become the second ASEAN nation after the Philippines to acquire BrahMos. This would mark a major milestone in India’s ambition to emerge as a top-tier global defence exporter.
