Time for another winter escape from the UK to somewhere warm. This time I was flying with Virgin Atlantic on one of their beautiful A350s for a flight across the pond and down to the Caribbean Island of Barbados.
Strangely, a stunning, bright & sunny winters morning departing Heathrow, albeit a very chilly one, just 3 degrees. Taking off from Heathrows Runway 09R we do a sharp right after take off to turn towards the south west and head towards the West Indies. Views of the Isle Of Wight as we reach the latter part of our climb before heading out across the cloud covered Atlantic.
Cruising at 38,000ft we passed directly over the Azores, but the cloud cover meant none were visible, sadly. A fair bit of turbulence enroute, a few occasions where the seat belt signs came on, but we also had a short flight time, uncommon for heading West Bound across the Atlantic, but a tailwind to the Caribbean gave us a flight time of just 8 hours.
During our descent we flew around the coast of Barbados, through a few rain clouds before turning onto approach for RWY09 and flying along the beautiful, bustling south coast of the island before touching down at BGI, nicely ahead of schedule due to the strong, favouring winds across the Atlantic.
Service on Virgin as usual was brilliant. Meal choice was Sausage & Mash or a Penne Tomato Pasta. Followed by afternoon Tea before landing. Fabulous entertainment system and brilliant crew as always. Not to mention the A350 of course having the tailcam, which is a great feature.
