Performing is one thing and practicing is another.
One may rest the thumb on 6th string while performing and that only in
very specific passages and for a reason but not to practice picado.
The thumb in picado has nothing to do with points of support, that you get
from the proper posture itself and not from the thumb.
Just like box sports people jump on a string for training purposes.
Why theydont do
that in the actual box ring when they fight their opponent?
People who say that Paco rest the thumb (and try to make a rule about that
to practice) is because of watching Paco performing, they
have never seen Paco practicing at home.
I did.
And I personally asked all those questions to him and he answered that
when we practice picado one should never rest the thumb anywhere,
otherwise that will produce an unbalance in sound • "Picado" Any reason to rest thumb on 6th S...
as when one plays over the 5th or on the 6th string where would one rest
the thumb?
The reason people say such things is to justify their bad technique
and their lack of will to change to the proper way.
