This is a little experiment with some new diopter filters I picked up. I’ve got an upcoming project that needs proper close-up work, so I wanted to see how these diopters perform compared with a dedicated macro lens.
For anyone unfamiliar, a diopter is essentially a magnifying filter that screws onto the front of your lens. It reduces your minimum focusing distance, letting you get much closer to your subject and pull out those tiny details that would normally be impossible without a macro setup.
This test was all about seeing the look, the feel, and the character they bring, the subtle edge distortion, the fall-off, the way the bokeh behaves when you push the glass right up to its limits. A fun little experiment, and a really useful one for the project ahead.
