Once, I thought I had it all figured out—testing strategies perfected, quality seamlessly woven into delivery, and teams empowered to achieve incredible velocity with minimal friction. It felt like standing on a mountaintop, surveying a well-conquered world of collaboration and excellence. But as any adventurer knows, every summit reveals new horizons—and new challenges.
My next challenge was unexpected: testing in an infrastructure team shifting to a DevOps approach. Gone were the familiar terrains of feature testing and user stories; instead, I found myself navigating a world of environments, virtual machines, security zones, and intricate networking. It was a land where my usual tools and methods no longer applied. I had to adapt, learn, and find new ways to deliver quality in a space where my "customers" were internal teams, relying on the platform we were building to support their work.
In this new frontier, our team transformed. We shifted from a reactive group addressing tickets to a proactive product team with a roadmap, working in sprints, and redefining our purpose. We created a blueprint document as an interface between our team and others, a living guide to align expectations and validate deliveries.
Through trial and error, collaboration, and resilience, I learned what quality means in the platform engineering world. Join me as I recount the journey—the lessons, the pitfalls, and the victories—as a tester in this dynamic space. Together, let’s explore what it takes to redefine quality and testing in a DevOps-driven infrastructure landscape.
