May we never forget and always remember the innocent people who were tragically killed a quarter century ago today, on April 19, 1995, in Oklahoma City, at 9:02am. This event from 25 years ago occurred a few months before I was born.
According to what history tells us, it was a direct retaliation against America for Ruby Ridge in August of 1992 and Waco, TX, which culminated exactly two years to the day prior to the Oklahoma City Bombing; the Waco Siege took place starting from February 28, 1993 and concluding on April 19, 1993 (27 years ago today).
168 lives were taken on this day in 1995, when U.S. Military veterans, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, senselessly detonated 4,800 pounds of the explosives set off in a Ryder truck parked right outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. Hundreds of others were injured and hundreds of buildings were impacted within sixteen blocks.
The bombing was felt over fifty miles away and registered a 3.0 on the Richter scale. This domestic terrorist attack costs roughly 652 million dollars in damages and was the hugest attack on America until September 11, 2001.
Timothy McVeigh was executed by lethal injection at his own will/desire on June 11, 2001, which was 11 days before my last day of Kindergarten. Terry Nichols is currently held at the ADX Florence Supermax Prison in Florence, Colorado serving 161 life sentences - the same prison which carries terrorists foreign and domestic, including the Unabomber, Shoe Bomber, Underwear Bomber, Boston Bomber, World Trade Center 1993 Bombers, et al.
