Scam using Zelle targeting Bank of America customers

Описание: Scammers are trying to steal hard-earned cash from bank accounts, leaving people asking: "Where's the money?!" One of the latest ploys is attempting to get people to send money through the banking app Zelle.

Scams are getting more advanced and sophisticated. People are getting phone calls that are labeled as their financial institution, asking for money directly. They claimed there were two pending Zelle transfers that were made from a checking account that the account holder would be on the hook for if he didn't get it straightened out.

The victim we spoke to said the scammer wanted them to send $3,500 to sort it out. But as a reminder, only send money to people they know. And if you suspect something is sketchy, report it to the Better Business Bureau.

Also, administrators of some Facebook business pages have recently been receiving alarming messages from accounts that appear to belong to Facebook staff members letting them know their page will soon be deleted.

“Important Notification: Your Facebook page is scheduled for permanent deletion due to a post that has infringed upon our trademark rights. We have reached this decision after a thorough review and in accordance with our intellectual property protection policies,” a portion of the message says.

Here are some tips to avoid becoming a victim of a scam:

Emotional appeal - Any pitch that ratchets up your emotion will inhibit your rational judgment.
Sense of urgency - You MUST act now, or else.
Request for unorthodox payment - Gift cards, prepaid credit cards, wire transfers, etc.
Explanations that don't ring true - If your new “landlord” can’t show you the inside of the house, that could be because they don’t own it.
You won, now pay up - It’s not a prize if you have to pay for it. Taxes, fees, shipping, whatever.
Too good to be true - That’s because it’s not true. Sorry, your long-lost relative didn’t die, leaving you millions. That car you bought online for a third of its Kelly Blue Book value doesn’t really exist. The son of a billionaire diamond broker didn’t “swipe right” on you and fall instantly in love. That work-at-home job paying you hundreds of dollars an hour for stuffing envelopes isn’t real.
