Nantwich: After heading down to the winding hole at Bridge 91 first, I turned around and set off towards Barbridge Junction and then onwards to Calverley, mooring about a mile short of the 2-lock staircase at Bunbury. It was a beautiful sunny day for this first leg of the journey to Chester.
In the video I passed a boat called Spartacus - resisting the temptation to shout "I am Spartacus!" (makes sense if you've seen the film) and also Mountbatten, one of the fuel-boats that supply diesel, gas, coal etc., and hear the wonderful sound of her engine. Also passed a steam-powered boat named 'Ictus' which I recently saw on the Llangollen Canal, and some friendly local boaters as I left Nantwich - as well as seeing 'Gwill' - a lovely 25-foot Beetle.
There's a sneaky peak at Part 2, which includes my travelling along with 'Violet', a hire boat being driven and crewed by some Norwegian holidaymakers. We went along together as far as Wharton's Lock - they were very friendly and we helped each other through several sets of double locks.
Hope you'll enjoy the video!
Jeff
