One in five people over the age of 65 live alone in South Korea.
According to the 2020 Population and Housing Census provided by Statistics Korea,.. more than 1-point-6 million elderly people live without a spouse or children.
This is up by nearly 36-percent compared to data compiled in 2015.
The number of people in single-person households over the age of 80 has also jumped 50-percent in the same time period.
Most elderly single-person households are located in regions outside the greater Seoul area,... with the highest proportion in Jeollanam-do Province,... at almost 14-percent.
