Описание: The Susquehannock, sometimes referred to as the Conestoga, Minquas, and Andaste, were a group of Iroquoian people residing in the lower Susquehanna River basin, which is now located in Pennsylvania. Their name signifies "individuals residing near a watercourse with turbid waters." John Smith, who conducted an exploration of the upper regions of Chesapeake Bay in 1608, provided the first description of the Susquehannock. The Susquehannocks actively participated in the fur trade and formed strong commercial alliances with Virginia, New Sweden, and New Netherland. They were in a state of hostility with Maryland until a peace was diplomatically arranged in 1652, and were subjected to sporadic assaults by the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois).
