Noem: Minnesota State Investigators are "allowing the situation to be volatile" amid ICE backlash

Описание: The investigation into a deadly shooting in Minneapolis involving an ICE officer will now solely be led by the FBI, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) will no longer have access to case materials.

The state and FBI were previously conducting a joint investigation, but a statement released by the BCA says, "the FBI informed the BCA that the U.S. Attorney’s Office had reversed course: the investigation would now be led solely by the FBI, and the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation."

Superintendent Drew Evans added that without "complete access to the evidence," the organization cannot meet the investigative standards that Minnesota law and the public demands and "has reluctantly withdrawn from the investigation."

"We expect the FBI to conduct a thorough and complete investigation and that the full investigative file will be shared with the appropriate prosecutorial authorities at both the state and federal levels," he said.

Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot and killed by an unidentified ICE officer on Wednesday, with lawmakers and officials arguing over who is to blame for the shooting.

Video of the incident appeared to show Good driving away during a raid before being shot by an ICE officer, and the Department of Homeland Security argues she tried to use her vehicle as a weapon while agents were trying to make arrests, prompting them to fire in self-defense.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called the shooting "an act of domestic terrorism" and said ICE agents were carrying out lawful enforcement operations.

During a news conference on Thursday, Noem said the ICE officer involved in the deadly shooting is "experienced" and served for several years.
