Electronic Warfare (EW) has reached the heart of modern combat. Nowadays, wars and battles can be won – and of course lost – based on superior capabilities within the radio-magnetic spectrum. Radio frequency technologies like radar, navigation and weapon systems are essential to military forces and have become increasingly important to disrupt, detect and deceive enemy forces.
The most popular component of EW is electronic attack, which is the jamming of hostile systems or signal deception. Jamming means to distract important hostile signals and messages to reach their destination - and so getting a decisive advantage.
HENSOLDT has proven the effectiveness of its jamming system Kalaetron Attack against air defence radars of various types for the first time in extended flight tests. In challenging near-mission scenarios, a demonstrator system on board a PC-12 test aircraft proved that it can detect even the latest air defence radars in flight and interfere with them by means of precisely directed jamming signals.
