Cast and director of 'The Physician' hold press conference in Berlin ahead of the film's world premi

Cast members of new movie "The Physician," including Stellan Skarsgard, Tom Payne and Emma Rigby, attended a press conference in Berlin Monday (16 DEC. 2013) ahead of the film's world premiere.
They were joined at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel by director Philipp Stolzl and author Noah Gordon.
Set in the 11th century, the film tells the story of an English surgeon's apprentice, Rob Cole (played by Payne), who travels across Europe in order to learn medicine from Muslims in Persia.
He pretends to be Jewish so that he can attend a school that doesn't admit Christians.
"I realized actually a lot of Rob's journey in the film is about family, really, and the fact that he doesn't have one and he finds family everywhere he goes," Payne told the press conference.
The actor stars in the film alongside big names, such as Sir Ben Kingsley, Olivier Martinez and Skarsgard, though he doesn't necessarily see the role as his big break.
"I entered the whole thing not knowing what to expect and not making any assumptions," he explained.
"I've had a few points in my career where it's been the big thing and everything's going to take off and it's going to be great and you don't have to worry anymore, so when you've had those experiences before you don't take anything for granted and you know what? You just wait and see. It's difficult if you allow yourself to think like that because you can only be disappointed. If you think that you're just having a good time for the next week or so and we'll see what happens next year then that's going to be my fun."
The book was first published in 1986 and author Noah Gordon is thrilled that it's finally been made into a film.
"How impressed I am with this cast, how wildly talented I think they are and what a wonderful job Philipp did to make a long and interesting movie, so thank you all," he said.
"The Physician" (German title "Der Medicus") will be released in Germany on Christmas Day, 25th December 2013.
