Ahhh yes, the garage… oooh, there she is, my beautiful mountain bike…
Where am I going? Hey, Come back, the Enduro is right here dude!! Hold up, what is that?????? Oh no, is that a…... ROAD BIKE??
You guys have all seen my mountain bike and my dirt jumper, but what you didn’t know is that I also have a THIRD BIKE that didn’t make the cut for life on the road. This is a Schwinn Paramount that I used as my transportation back when I lived in FL and didn’t own a car.
Today I’m on a mission: I am going to attempt to convert this Paramount into a makeshift backpacking rig. For those of you that don’t know, I’ve been going a little crazy while off the mountain bike, so while I wait for my shoulder to heal, I have decided to go on a road bike adventure from Miami to the very tip of the Florida Keys. Oh yea, I also talked Seth into joining me on what is sure to be a absolute clown fiesta.
Now, I don’t know much about this bike as I bought it from some dude on craigslist for $150 bucks, but I can appreciate the old school style and efficiency. It’s also pretty fun to ride, and that’s just what I intend to do.
As expected there was some necessary maintenance that I had to do in order to get the bike back to mechanical function after years hanging in a garage. I had a flat tire,
Now it’s time to think bike packing. Let’s start with water storage. I’d prefer do my best to not have to put water on my back, so I installed a second bottle cage.
Next, I bought a SUPER cheap bike rack thingy from Amazon for ten bucks. The only problem is, my bike has no mounts, so I had to find a way to secure it to my rear triangle. I bought some padded P clamps that should do the trick. It’s still not incredibly sturd
Ok time to load it all up. Everything fits in my bags no problem, but I know that I have a tendency to overpack, so I’ll most likely do one last run through to eliminate some things once I get to Seth’s place.
Will my bootstrap setup work? Will Seth and I make it all the way to Key West? I have no idea, but we’re going have fun as we find out.
Thanks for watching today guys. We're leaving today, so wish us luck!
As always, live free, ride hard, and stay stoked!!!
Alexander
