"Carol of the Bells", originally "Shchedryk" ("Bountiful Evening"), is a traditional Ukrainian song arranged in 1916 by composer Mykola Leontovych.
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is a 15th Century Traditional English Carol.
Arrangement, playing and recording: Tommaso Zillio at the Edmonton Guitar Music Studio.
Cinematography: Eva Sant
Video Editing: Tommaso Zillio
For music theory geeks: I always wanted to do a creative arrangement of this Christmas Carol - in fact I am downright obsessed with it. My absolute favorite part of this arrangement is the 3-voices canon in augmentation (starting at 1:18): the two guitars and the bass are playing the SAME melody but at three different speeds! Hope you like it. My second favorite thing is the use of the rhythmic modulations (i.e. changes of time signature) throughout the song. As far as I know, nobody used odd time signatures on Carol of the Bells before this arrangement.
Shooting location: Havrelak park (Edmonton, Alberta)
NOTE: Yes, the snow is real and the breath condensation is real too! No, they were not added in post production. Please stop asking what editing techniques we used... the way we got the snow to "look realistic" it's because we were shooting while it was snowing, simple as that! :-)
Special thanks go to:
Tom Hess for teaching how to play the guitar AND giving me the Les Paul featured in the video.
AMT electronics for the best distortion pedals on the planet (used on all the guitars in this video)
John Lucas for covering the video shooting on the Edmonton Journal.
Eva Sant for putting up with me :-)
Повторяем попытку...
