Inspired by the vision set by UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the Transformative Education Summit (2022), UNESCO Jakarta and the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste organized the Transformative Education Forum from 11 to 13 December 2024 under the theme “Quality Education for Sustainable Peace in Timor-Leste.”
The Forum, opened by Minister of Education Dr. Dulce de Jesus Soares and UNESCO Regional Director Ms. Maki Katsuno-Hayshikawa, gathered over 200 participants, including high-level government officials, teachers, and national and international education partners.
This video captures highlights from the three-day event, featuring key remarks from the Minister of Education, UNESCO Director, UN Regional Coordinator, and the Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of Korea. The discussions focused on the progress and challenges in Timor-Leste’s education system and reimagining a transformative, inclusive, and resilient education that meets the needs and aspirations of all learners.
