Forest Hill located in the London Borough of Lewisham was opened by the London & Croydon Railway on June 5th 1839 as Dartmouth Arms with the name taken from a local Inn

The London & Brighton Railway started running through in 1841 with the South Eastern Railway following in 1842

In 1844 it was the northern terminus of the experimental atmospherical railway to West Croydon which today services diverge south of Norwood Junction

At the same time a pumping station was constructed close by

However after the station was renamed Forest Hill for Lordship Lane in 1845 combined with the London & Croydon and London & Brighton Railways merging in 1846 the atmospheric experimental working was abandoned all together in 1847

The suffix of Lordship Lane gradually fell out of use with todays name Forest Hill all that remains.

The original station buildings were badly damaged during World War II and although did survive however were replaced in 1972 by British Rail

The former narrow island platform which today is occupied by the through fast lines was taken out of use in the 1960s.

Today the station is managed by London Overground and since 2010 been served by the East London Line which was extended south from New Cross Gate to Crystal Palace and West Croydon

It was part of the London Underground network up until December 2007 when the line was fully closed to enable conversion from the 4th rail LU System to the 750 cold DC 3rd Rail System

On weekday Southern services call here are mainly services to and from London Bridge to London Victoria via Crystal Palace which join the Brighton Main Line at Balham.

On the day of filming Thameslink services were cut back to London Bridge due to engineering works between London Bridge and St Pancras International.

Southeastern had problems throughout the morning firstly services to and from Hastings were on divert between London Bridge and Tonbridge via Redhill due to Engineering Works between Orpington and Tonbridge

Secondly there was severe disruption earlier that morning due to a person hit by a train between Redhill and Tonbridge and thirdly there was major disruption between London Bridge and London Charing Cross due to a Lineside Signalling Fire which not only damaged line side equipment but also knocked out of use Platforms 6 and 7 at London Bridge

It meant all Hastings were cut back to London Bridge and the problem wasn't fixed until the following afternoon when Hastings were able to resume into London Charing Cross.
