Описание:
Scratch of a Diamond-like carbon (DLC) on tool steel observed in situ with a optical microscope. The deformation can be seen to progress in four stages: elastic surface deflection, plastic deformation of the coating, ring crack formation, and finally compressive spallation of the coating ahead of the indenter. The DLC coating was tested with a 200 μm radius Rockwell indenter at a loading rate of 14.5 N/min, a speed of 5 mm/min and a length of 5 mm. Tests were performed at the the EMPA Laboratory for Mechanics of Materials and Nanostructures in Thun, Switzerland using a customized Revetest Scratch tester on loan from TriTec SA (formerly CSM Instruments SA).
