The reason people are interested in investing in quantum computers is that there are some problems that scale exponentially on a classical computer. Every time you take the problem and make it just a little bit bigger, it gets twice as hard for the classical computer.
For some of those problems, they don’t scale exponentially on quantum computers. So, although these things are slow, finicky, and expensive — and trust me, as somebody that works with these things every day, all three of those are true — the fact that there are some problems that are simply unsolvable with a classical computer, that are possible with a quantum computer, justifies all the investment everyone’s making in these things.
