This is a review and water test for Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax. This is Pinnacle's premium carnauba based show car wax that advertises the best finish for darker paint colors. It's very enjoyable to work with, super easy application and removal. This is a wipe on wipe off wax, you don't have to wait for anything to dry or haze over before removing it from the paint. It smells great as well!
As you can see in the video, the short term beading is outstanding, and it holds up well after the soap test. Pinnacle Souveran was applied to the right side fender and hood facing the test car, and S100 Paste Wax was applied on the opposite side of the hood and fender for a comparison. The test sections were prepped using Meguiar's M205 finishing polish, followed up with an isopropyl alcohol wipedown, both waxes were buffed within a 5 minute dry period, and this rinse test occurred 24 hours after applying.
Souveran typically sells for $95 for 8oz, a steep price for those unfamiliar with the boutique wax market. This wax was formulated back in the early 90s to compete directly against the finish that Zymol's Destiny Estate Glaze left behind, which currently sells for $882 for 8oz. You'll find many other premium boutique waxes which sell well into the $1000 range, check out Zymol's Atlantique($1643), Vintage($2542), and Royale($9435) offerings, as well as Swissvax's Crystal Rock($1499) and Divine($3490), etc. So in reality, Souveran is sold at quite the budget price when it's compared to waxes that it's really trying to compete against on the quality of the finish left behind. Based on many reviews from other users, Souveran does appear to excel even against the pricier options when it comes to depth, gloss, and wetness on darker colors.
Although Souveran does well in the soap test, expect to see between 1-2 months of durability. This beading does die down after a few weeks especially in the humid and wet Florida climate. This is a show car wax so you'll find the durability in other products, but in many cases extra durability can reduce the ease of use of the products. Collinite paste waxes are a great example of this.
Even though Souveran is an outstanding paste wax to work with, you have to figure out if the value is worth the extra cost above other more affordable or more durable choices. No wax is going to magically turn your paint into a show car finish, it takes proper compounding and polishing to really refine the paint before any wax is applied to see the best results.
Will you notice a difference in the finish compared to other waxes? Only you can answer that, I'm not expecting to see a difference on this lighter blue or silver paint that I'm testing my products on - if the difference is there it's going to be the most noticeable on dark blues, black, and reds. I can't ignore the long list of reviewers who can detect the differences in the finish left behind that cause Souveran to stand out as a great option.
I'm personally not focused on gloss or depth as a priority purchasing decision. After I polish the paint I can have a long list of popular wax or sealant options on the paint and be completely satisfied with the finish left behind. What stands out for me is the incredible ease of use and pleasant scent that keep me wanting to grab for Souveran to work with. Any extra gloss/depth is a small bonus in my eyes, so I'll most likely wait for show car waxes to be on sale before I pull the trigger on a purchase. That's my personal preference.
