Direct variation describes a linear relationship between two variables where one variable is a constant multiple of the other. In mathematical terms, if ( y ) varies directly as ( x ), then the relationship can be expressed by the equation ( y = kx ), where ( k ) is the constant of variation or proportionality. This means that as ( x ) increases or decreases, ( y ) will increase or decrease proportionally, maintaining a consistent ratio. For example, if the amount of money earned is directly proportional to the number of hours worked, doubling the hours worked will also double the earnings, assuming the hourly rate remains constant
