Some AR handguards like the new Midwest Industries Night Fighter rail are designed to minimize flex when used with an IR laser designator. But are they worth the weight and the cost?
I don't think rail flex is a serious problem for 99 percent of shooters, but rail shift might be. Particularly because almost all AR handguards on the market use a combination of friction and optimism to keep them in place.
