This tutorial is for you if you are wanting to move your podcast from Wordpress to a new podcast host.

Note: There are multiple ways to set a 301 Redirect for PowerPress/Wordpress. The cPanel is one option. This is how I moved my show from Wordpress to Simplecast, and is my preferred method.

This tutorial will teach you how to set a 301 Redirect for your PowerPress RSS Feed using the cPanel at your web hosting provider. For this tutorial, I demonstrate using Siteground, but this will work in other cPanels.

The 301 Redirect permanently redirects your old/original RSS Feed to your new RSS Feed.
The 301 Redirect is set where you are moving your podcast from (in this case Wordpress).


How to Locate Your Podcast RSS Feed on Wordpress:
1. Sign into Wordpress Site
2. Click ‘Powerpress’ in the left sidebar
3. Click on ‘Feeds’ in the top tabs
4. Copy the RSS Feed to clipboard (cmd + c)


How To Set a 301 Redirect using Siteground cPanel:
1. Sign into Siteground or your Web Host
2. Click on ‘Websites’
3. Click on cPanel
4. Sign into cPanel
5. Search or locate ‘Redirects’
6. Click ‘dropdown’ and select your root domain of your website URL (mikemurphy.co)
7. Paste in the slug or the last part of your PowerPress RSS Feed (/feed/podcast)
8. In the ‘Redirects To’ field, enter your new RSS Feed (in my case https://feeds.simplecast.com/8arsv7Yn)
9. Click Add

How do you test the 301 Redirect?
1. Open a web browser
2. Enter your original RSS Feed in the address bar
3. Hit Enter Return
4. Your New RSS Feed should open (check the address bar for new feed URL

If your new RSS Feed URL opens, the 301 Redirect is working and any requests for the old feed will get permanently redirected to the new RSS Feed.
